Peoples Bank Manager Assists Immigrants

Exceptional Volunteer Spotlight: Marjorie Sack York

Marjorie Sack-York

Extending Warmth and Compassion to Families Across the Globe

Marjorie Sack-York's heart was moved with compassion when she learned about the need for volunteers supporting the United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) during church one Sunday. Her maternal grandparents had immigrated to Panama from Spain, while her paternal great grandparents had moved to NY from Russia, so she knew firsthand the struggles of acclimating to a new country. Without hesitation, Marjorie heeded the call to lend a helping hand. Her spirit felt the need to pay forward the kindness shown to her family when they arrived in Panama and the United States.

"Americans opened their arms to my family," says Marjorie. "Now it's my turn to pay it forward and extend the same embrace to those in need of safety and security."

Despite her responsibilities at work as a portfolio manager with Peoples Bank and being a busy mom, Marjorie made it a mission to extend a warm welcome to families embarking on a new journey. She works alongside local churches to resettle families from places like Congo, Afghanistan, Syria and El Salvador, providing them with everything from furniture and linens to food upon their arrival in the United States.

She knows that it's not always easy to find the time to help these families, but the joy and gratitude she sees in their eyes makes it all worth it. Marjorie provides inspiration, showing the world that we can all make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
