Coronavirus and COVID-19 Updates

Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)

PPP offers financial relief through the Small Business Administration (SBA) to small businesses across the U.S. that have been impacted by COVID-19. The federal government has set aside more than $350 billion through this and other programs.

As an approved SBA lender, Peoples Bank may be able to help you access these essential funds for your business. We are actively assisting our customers who have questions about these loans and we encourage them to reach out to their banker to discuss how to get started. For customers that are interested, we recommend visiting the SBA website to review eligibility and documentation requirements to request a loan.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to significantly increased call volume, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to return all calls. We are committed to supporting our customers and community during this time and promise that we are working diligently to return all calls as promptly as possible.

For non-customers, we suggest that you reach out to your primary financial institution as your first point of contact for your inquiry. If your bank is not participating in the Paycheck Protection Program and you are seeking assistance, please understand that our priority will be focused on current customers.

Financial Hardship Assistance

At Peoples Bank, we are dedicated to being a partner for our customers and community during these unprecedented times. If you are experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 virus regarding your mortgage, home equity loan, auto loan, or business loan, please contact your local office or loan officer during normal business hours for assistance. We appreciate your continued understanding if response times are longer than usual; however, your call will be returned by a representative as quickly as possible and we will continue to work together as we navigate this unfortunate situation.

For assistance with your Peoples Bank business or personal credit card, please call 800-367-7576 for live customer support, 24-hours a day.

Stay-at-Home Orders

Banking is one business that is deemed "essential" during these emergency situations, meaning that Peoples Bank will remain open during this time. We will continue to operate our branches primarily through drive-thru windows and allowing in-branch transactions by appointment on a limited basis as deemed necessary by the staff.

Our Cary, Cornelius and Central Avenue branch locations do not offer drive-thru windows. Before you head out, check our branch locations page to determine the nearest branch and services available. If you need an appointment, please call the branch directly.

The corporate office will continue to operate in support of our offices and customers. We appreciate your continued patience with the possibility of slower response times, but our teams are committed to serving you during these unprecedented times.

We strongly encourage customers to utilize our digital banking tools whenever possible:
  • Use Online Banking and Mobile Banking for your everyday banking needs. If you are not currently enrolled in Online Banking, please click here for more information and to enroll today.
  • Deposit checks using Mobile Check Deposit.  Available in both the App Store or Google Play, our Mobile Banking App will allow you to deposit most checks right from your smartphone without a trip to the bank.
  • Utilize banking features such as Mobile Wallet, whenever possible to limit your interaction with cash and transaction pads.

Avoid Coronavirus Scams

Fraudsters are taking advantage of coronavirus as they have during other emergency situations. In circumstances like these, you need to be even more aware and on guard for potential fraud and scams. Never give your personal information out to people who may contact you unsolicited by phone, email, text or social media message. Rely on trusted sources for information about the virus. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization for the most accurate information.

A message to our customers about coronavirus and COVID-19

At Peoples Bank, our commitment to our community is a core part of who we are. As part of that promise to our employees, and our community members, we feel that it is important that we let you know the proactive steps that we are taking to keep both of these groups as safe and updated as possible during this ever-changing event.

Here are some steps that we're taking in our offices to provide protection for both staff and customers:

  • Additional cleaning measures have been put in place daily to disinfect high-touch areas including teller lines, deposit areas, door handles, desks, ATMs, etc.
  • Hand sanitizing stations have always been available in our offices, however, you may hear our employees encourage additional use of these resources before and after transactions, specifically those involving cash.
  • Limiting face-to-face meetings, particularly those that involve a number of people gathering on-site and encouraging the use of teleconferencing for meetings when possible.
  • Asking employees who are sick to stay home until they are well and those who have recently traveled to any of the high-risk countries or live in the same household with someone who recently traveled one of the identified high-risk regions to notify their manager and self-quarantine for 14 days.

Additionally, below are some ways that we recommend you, as a consumer, consider your banking habits in order to keep your exposure minimized:

  • Use Online Banking and Mobile Banking for your everyday banking needs. If you are not currently enrolled in Online Banking, please click here for more information and to enroll today.
  • Deposit checks using Mobile Check Deposit.  Available in both the App Store or Google Play, our Mobile Banking App will allow you to deposit most checks from the convenience of your home without a trip to the bank. Click here for more information.
  • Utilize banking features such as Mobile Wallet, whenever possible to limit your interaction with cash and transaction pads. When you do need to touch public services or exchange cash or cards with others, avoid touching your face after completing the transaction and wash your hands as soon as possible. Sanitize debit cards and your mobile phone frequently.
  • If you need assistance with your account, but are feeling under the weather, contact our Customer Service at 828-466-1765 or toll free at 877-802-1212. We will work to assist you as much as possible.
  • Beware of false information. Stay informed by referencing reliable sources for updates, such as the CDC website.
  • Always beware of scammers who will use any circumstance to attempt to steal sensitive information. Remember that Peoples Bank will never contact you asking for information like your SSN, username or password, PIN, or debit card number. Keep an eye on your account information and contact us immediately if you see anything suspicious.

We would like to assure you that we will be monitoring this situation closely and using the most trusted sources for information, including the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organizations (WHO), state and local health agencies, and banking agencies and regulators.
