Supporting local schools through basketball
The Peoples Bank Holiday Clash basketball tournament will be held Dec. 29, Dec. 30, and Dec. 31, 2025, at West Lincoln High School under the leadership of Athletic Director David Avery, continuing a celebrated tradition of community spirit and athletic competition. This year’s tournament will include Ashbrook High School, Bandys High School, Draughn High School, East Gaston High School, Forestview High School, Lincoln Charter High School, North Lincoln High School, and host West Lincoln High School.
“We’re honored to welcome teams, families, and fans to West Lincoln this year,” said Avery. “The Holiday Clash represents the best of high school athletics−hard work, fellowship, and hometown pride. We’re excited to bring everyone together for this year’s event.”
The tournament, which began in 2002, has grown from a four-team local event into an eight-team showcase of regional talent. Both girls’ and boys’ varsity teams compete in three games during the Christmas break, helping them stay sharp for the upcoming conference season and improving their chances for strong seeding in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state tournament.
Beyond the court, the tournament serves as a significant fundraiser for the host school's athletic department. The proceeds generated help fund essential needs, such as new uniforms and equipment, directly supporting student-athletes.
“The Holiday Clash is huge for us,” Avery added. “It’s a great opportunity to play teams outside of our conference, and the funds it generates allow us to make facility improvements and take on big-ticket items that keep our athletic programs running strong.”
Peoples Bank’s long-standing tournament sponsorship highlights its commitment to the communities it serves. The event has fostered goodwill and provides a platform for students, families, and fans to come together and celebrate local talent. The tournament rotates annually among West Lincoln, North Lincoln, Bandys and Lincoln Charter high schools. Additionally, participating schools have opportunities to raise funds through other activities, ensuring that the event benefits all teams involved, not just the host school.
“The Holiday Clash is more than just a basketball tournament−it’s a celebration of community and an opportunity to support education and athletics,” said Bill Cable, CEO of Peoples Bank. “We’re proud to support an event that not only showcases exceptional talent, but also makes a lasting impact on local schools and families.”
