Peoples Bank has named Business Development Officer Matt Anderson as its 2024 Volunteer of the Year

Known for his dedication to community service, Matt Anderson has shown exceptional leadership and passion for helping others, making a lasting impact through his efforts to support economic growth, education, and grassroots initiatives.

By serving on the board of Carolina Business Capital, Anderson has played a role in making commercial real estate financing more accessible for small and mid-sized businesses, fostering economic development and job creation throughout the area. His focus on small business development has also been reflected in his former service on the Loan Advisory Board for the Business Expansion Funding Corporation (BEFCOR), where he contributed to innovative financing solutions that empower emerging enterprises.

At Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business, Anderson has mentored students, sharing his financial expertise to inspire future banking leaders. As President of the Trojan Country Athletic Boosters (TCAB), he has helped to secure funding, ensuring student-athletes at Bandys High School and Mill Creek Middle School have the resources to thrive both on and off the field. Most recently, Anderson has helped organize two successful campaigns for the Bandys area district, including “Project ONE,” an initiative to raise more than $100,000 for a new multi-purpose athletic facility at Bandys High School, and the TCAB Youth Football Jamboree, which raised more than $10,000 for student-athletes.

Anderson also co-organized the Peoples Bank Holiday Clash basketball tournament, a community-focused event that generated $24,500 for local schools. Additionally, his leadership extends to community committees, including the Catawba County Schools 5-Year Strategic Planning Committee.

Beyond his professional and organizational contributions, Anderson has volunteered as a football and baseball coach for Balls Creek Optimist Club, mentoring young students and athletes with enthusiasm and care. Through his involvement, he has become a trusted role model.

“Our Volunteer of the Year, Matt Anderson, exemplifies the very best of what it means to give back,” said Bill Cable, CEO of Peoples Bank. “His organizational leadership, mentoring efforts, and ability to rally others for positive change show us all the profound impact of volunteerism. At Peoples Bank, we are proud of our culture of service and inspired by the dedication of individuals like Matt.”

Anderson’s recognition comes during a year when Peoples Bank employees collectively contributed nearly 1,600 community service hours. Employees supported a wide array of causes, including civic organizations, non-profits, health initiatives, education, and economic development. Together, they continue to enrich communities and demonstrate the power of service in action.
